There are still painters who play with refinement on the contrasts of the complements in the colour. Peter Valentiner is one of them. The work is still based on the system of ribbons, covers and "windows" familiar to this painter, but his evolution has led him to a more acute questioning of the sensitivity of colours. On modulated grey backgrounds, animated by free unpigmented brushstrokes, he develops a research punctuated by large horizontal bands, broken every fifteen centimetres or so. A reflection on and in painting (9).
